See What Your testOEE Is Hiding

Overall Equipment Effectiveness multiplies availability, performance and quality. An MES measures it from machine signals, with the reason for every loss attached. Adjust the example shift to match one of your lines.

White marker = 85%, the figure often quoted as world-class OEE. Performance is capped at 100%. Example numbers for illustration only; real OEE depends on how your plant defines planned time and ideal rate.

Three Factors,

A low OEE tells you something is wrong. The three factors tell you where to look.

Availability

Was the line running? test

(planned − stops) ÷ planned

Breakdowns, changeovers and waiting for material all cost availability.test

Performance

Was it running at rate?

(ideal cycle × units) ÷ run time

Slow cycles and micro-stops cost performance, and rarely appear on shift reports.

Quality

Was the output good?

(units − rejects) ÷ units

Scrap and rework cost quality, and every reject carries a material and time cost with it.

Know Your Real OEE,

An MES assessment shows how much of your OEE is measured today and how much is guessed.
